When we talk about financial assets, a portfolio will genrally will have Equity and Debt. Even Gold in paper/ digitised form is also vastly considered.
When we talk of Equity and Debt, its pertinent to understand the sub-classes within these.
A large cap fund will behave differently than a Small cap or a Midcap fund.
Or A value fund might do differently than a growth oriented fund at different times.
Or if You take Debt, a bond with a higher duration will deliver returns in a different way than a short duration bond. So is the case with bonds of different credit ratings.
One more interesting point to note is the kind of hybrid funds one can be comfortable with . Hybrids with varying degree of Equity levels.
Its essestial that one considers all these things before one builds hois portfolio.
